This week, the Gay Softball World Series is coming to Tampa Bay, reports the website for GSWS Tampa, an organization formed solely to coordinate hosting this event. The Gay Softball World Series (GSWS) will be held September 3rd to 8th, with events and ceremonies taking place across Tampa, like Curtis Hixon Park, Florida Aquarium, and the Cuban Club.
The GSWS is held annually by the North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance (NAGAAA), and over 200 teams from the United States and Canada participate each year. To give back to the community, NAGAAA always hosts a fundraising event during the Gay Softball World Series, raising thousands of dollars for HIV/AIDS organizations and other nonprofits in the host city. This year, the Charity Fundraiser will be held on September 5th at the Marriott Waterside. The event is a pool party that will feature a DJ, drag queen Nina West as MC, and a swimsuit competition.
Tampa GSWS is working hard to martial the requisite hundreds of volunteers needed to make the Gay Softball World Series a success this year. The event is expected to attract a great deal of attention and revenue to the area, and brings with it increased recognition of Tampa’s role as an LGBTQ+ friendly city.
