As a hot spot for all things entertainment, it’s no surprise that the Orlando area is stock-full of hotels and resorts.

In fact, there are so many hotels and resorts that it can often be challenging to know which of these properties is the most welcoming to LGBT travelers while also being clean, comfortable, and conveniently located.

During my recent trip to Universal Studios, I had the opportunity to visit the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott at 6073 West Irlo Bronson Highway in Kissimmee, Florida.

Located 20 miles from Orlando International Airport, the hotel offers guests convenient access to Disney World Theme Parks, SeaWorld, Discovery Cove and Universal Studios.

The 150-room property opened last June and operates as a Marriott franchise, managed by InterMountain Management of Monroe, Louisiana.

Having worked for Marriott nearly a decade prior, the updated, colorful exterior of the building and the smart, inventive public space impressed me.

As I walked up to the front desk, I was promptly greeted by the front desk manager and then kindly ushered to the elevators to find my room.

My double queen guest room was bright, clean, and inviting and the bathroom was large and roomy. I kicked off my shoes and laid on the bed to relax and unwind after my long drive.

I was overjoyed by the comfort of the mattress. I felt like Goldilocks on the baby bear’s bed. The mattress wasn’t too firm, or too soft. It was just right.

The room also offered several amenities, including complimentary wi-fi, a refrigerator, coffeemaker, and microwave.

The next morning, I enjoyed a complimentary hot buffet breakfast which had something for everyone: cereal, toast, Mickey Mouse-shaped waffles, eggs, hot meats, fruit, and more.

Before heading out for the day, I took advantage of the “connect and print” area that provided both standing and seated Internet stations.

Then I relaxed in the lobby’s living area to catch up on my emails. The decor was beautiful with its natural stone hearth, organic-shaped sofa and lounge chair, and stylish decor.

On my way out the door, I purchased a bottle of water from the 24/7 Corner Market.

Marriott has openly welcomed and marketed to the LGBT community for nearly a decade and the Fairfield Inn & Suites in Kissimmee, Florida plans to continue that tradition for years to come.
