For many companies, 2020 brought unimaginable obstacles. Despite those challenges, some businesses in Florida maintained an inclusive environment. Learn more about which Florida Fortune 500 companies fared well in the 2021 Human Rights Campaign Equality Index.

Who Had Top Marks?

The Human Rights Campaign rated companies across the country based on their inclusivity of those in the LGBTQ community. In the 2021 publication of the results, there were 767 companies nationwide that achieved a perfect score of 100.

Earning a perfect mark isn’t easy. If a company wants to score well, they must rate highly in the following categories:

  • Benefits for LGBTQ workers and family members
  • Non-discriminatory policies
  • Social responsibility
  • Support for a culture that promotes inclusion

On average, the score of a Fortune 500 company in the U.S for this report jumped to 76. Comparatively, the average score was 73 in the 2020 report. Similarly, the average score of a company that actively participates in the Human Rights Campaign program went from 89 to 91.

The Best of Florida in the Human Rights Campaign 2021 Equality Index

In Florida, there were multiple companies that achieved perfect scores. The Tampa area alone had five businesses with top marks. In the Tampa region, scores of 100 went to:

  • Carlton Fields
  • Holland & Knight
  • WellCare Health Plans
  • Tech Data
  • Raymond Jones Financial

Meanwhile, Jacksonville had several top performers. Black Knight Inc, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida Inc., and Fidelity National Information Services all achieved scores of 100 and are based in Jacksonville.

Additionally, Miami appeared a few times on the list with Carnival Corp, Restaurant Brands International, Univision Communications Inc, and Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD.

In nearby Weston, UKG moved up from 90 to 100.

Representing Palm Beach County was Carrier Global Corporation, who made its first appearance on the Human Rights Campaign 2021 Equality Index with a perfect score. Other Florida companies to appear with perfect marks include:

  • Citrix Systems Inc of Fort Lauderdale
  • Hertz Global Holdings Inc of Estero
  • L3 Harris Technologies of Melbourne
  • Office Depot Inc of Boca Raton
  • Seacoast National Bank of Stuart
  • Wyndham Destinations of Orlando
