PRESS RELEASE FROM EQUALITY FLORIDA
We are thrilled to announced that Jon Harris Maurer has joined Equality Florida’s staff as our Public Policy Director!
Jon Harris joins our staff team with nearly a decade of experience working with Equality Florida as a volunteer leader on the Equality Florida Tallahassee Steering Committee and, most recently, as the chair of our statewide Board of Directors.
This year, Jon Harris served as our contract Government Affairs Manager. He led the organization through incredible victories, including defeating legislation that would create a sweeping license to discriminate and spearheading our efforts to fight for common sense gun safety reforms. As the Public Policy Director, Jon Harris will help to lead Equality Florida’s state legislative and local policy initiatives.
A South Florida native, Jon Harris now calls Tallahassee home and is Equality Florida’s first staffer permanently based in the Capital city. He brings a wealth of experience to the Public Policy Director role.
Jon Harris has worked directly in the Texas and Florida Houses of Representatives and served on the Annise Parker for Mayor Campaign, which elected the first lesbian mayor of a major U.S. city. He graduated from Florida State University College of Law, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Florida State University Law Review, before spending more than five years practicing administrative and environmental law.
We are so very excited to have Jon Harris’ experience and expertise as we work to bring our legislative and local policy programs to new heights.
Please welcome Jon Harris!
Senior Political Director
