Collier County hopes to attract more young and LGBTQ+ tourists with a new marketing campaign featuring same-sex couples, report Olivia Mancino and Erica Brown for Wink News. The advertisements will appear on the area’s official tourism website, Florida’s Paradise Coast.
The region is considered conservative, and has mostly appealed to older individuals. However, it has recently made efforts to welcome a diverse range of people, and Naples held its first pride parade last year.
According to Jack Wert, executive director of the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, “We have a lot of millennials traveling here. We see that more in our research that the LGBTQ community is the next step of being that much more welcoming to lots of different types of travelers.”
Naples Pride President Cori Craciun is optimistic about the campaign, but urges Naples to pay attention to the needs of both LGBTQ+ tourists and LGBTQ+ residents of the area.
