ALSO Youth will celebrate their annual “Over the Rainbow” gala on April 1st at the Lido Beach Resort in Sarasota, reports Krista di Tucci of Watermark Online. Drag performer David “Scarbie” Mitchell will guest host the event.

The LGBTQ+ youth advocacy and support group will honor Arthur Boyce and Amanda Just as Volunteers of the Year. The organization’s director, Molly Swift, wished to acknowledge both volunteers for their tireless involvement with the group.

Swift will also recognize transgender high school student Rae Mathews as Youth of the Year. Mathews has been a member of ALSO Youth for four years, and Swift says “He really wants to make the world a better place.”

ALSO Youth will collect spare change at the gala in a “Pot-O-Gold,” and will hold a raffle during the event.

There will also be cocktails, dinner, dancing, and a ukulele performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by ALSO members.

Community members have sponsored 15 to 20 youth tickets so that those most helped by the center can also attend. Says Swift, “It’s really special for them to be present and see the community of adults standing behind them. Some of the youth don’t have that support from home or school.”
