Press Release from Equality Florida‘s Todd Richardson:
The 2018 Equality Florida St Pete Gala was a smashing success and a new record-breaker! We raised $355,287 to help fund our work with 708 guests in attendance!
Congressman Charlie Crist delivered an eloquent speech about the important work of Equality Florida during the VIP reception, and our guests loved hearing from our hometown hero.
The Gala opened with Una Voice: The Gay Men’s Choir of Tampa Bay entertaining our guests with their incredible performance, including the song from Dear Evan Hansen, “You will be found.” It was a moment our guests will never forget.
Judith M. Kasen-Windsor, the surviving spouse of Edith Windsor, delivered a beautiful speech about the importance of our work, and how much Edie loved the St Pete community. We raised our glasses to toast the memory our dear friend.
Senior Political Director Joe Saunders delivered a heartfelt and memorable “State of the State” address. He spoke about the work of our organization, and the challenges we will face in the future.
Our presenters, Sylvia Rusché, Lara Shelton, and Cole Foust did a fantastic job honoring our award winners of the evening: Bob Devin Jones, Alissa Hopkins, and Ren Joseph!
David Fischer and his hardworking team from ZaZoo’d designed our event again this year, and they created an atmosphere that was sophisticated and fun! Catering by the Family, the new in-house caterer of the Mahaffey Theater, blew our guests away with their scrumptious cuisine! They wanted to impress our guests, and they succeeded! Bravo!
Thank you to Kahwa Coffee for providing a wonderful Espresso/Coffee Bar for our guests, and to DJ Fresh for always playing music that get our guests on the dance floor!
Finally, thank you to our Steering & Host Committees, Sponsors, Honorary Hosts, and the army of volunteers who are changing the lives of LGBTQ people in Florida.
